Review and Swatches: San San Matte Finish Liquid Foundation

Hello Pinay Beauties! I am back with another review and this is about the foundation that I used in my Simple With Pop Of Color Makeup For School Tutorial. It is the San San Matte Finish Liquid Foundation.

I have been meaning to do a formal review of this foundation since I recommend this for people like me who has oily skin. I was able to try this foundation before when I was still studying in college, but unfortunately I dropped it and it broke a few days after. I haven't got the chance to pick one again because of my restrained budget as a student, but I added it on my wishlist so that I can post a review for you guys.

Let's talk about packaging. It comes in a clear plastic box with a blue paper at the back indicating the name, shade number and ingredients.

The product itself comes in a frosted glass container with a twistable blue cap. What I like about it the most? It comes with a spatula so you can easily dispense the product.

Ingredients:

I picked up shades #03 and #02. I cannot find my perfect match so I decided to purchase 2 and just mix the shades. Here are some swatches at the back of my hand:

Left: #03, Right: #02

As you can see #03 is too dark for me while #02 is too light so I combined #03 and #02 to create a shade that matches my skin. Here is what it looks like on the face:

Coverage wise, it does a pretty decent job actually. I do not feel the need to apply concealer when I am using this foundation because coverage is very good and buildable too. It was able to conceal my dark undereye circles, redness even my pimples. The smell is the classic San San smell of sweet vanilla-coconut. It was off-putting at first (at least for me) but I think I got used to it. It doesn't completely disappear once applied rather it was lessened. The consistency of this foundation is a bit liquid-y as I expected but it makes application easier. The texture is actually very soft and smooth to the skin.

Now you guys may think that this a let down, but the finish of the foundation is a semi matte-dewy finish. It is not completely matte, but with the right setting powder this foundation gives out a flawless finish.

What I like about this product:
  • Affordable for ₱132 each.
  • Locally available (all HBC outlets nationwide).
  • Buildable coverage.
  • Semi matte-dewy finish.
  • Very blendable (due to consistency).
  • Feels soft and smooth when applied.
  • Moisturizing.
  • Doesn't break me out.
  • Very photo friendly (photographs really well).
What I didn't like about this product:
  • The scent.
  • Limited shades (only 4 shades available, hard to find the perfect match).
  • The heavy packaging (not so travel friendly).
  • May feel a bit heavy on the skin.
  • Sweat pushes the product off.
  • Staying power and oil control is so-so (needs to set with a good powder foundation).

Overall, I still love this foundation and I will continue to use it as an everyday foundation, and by that I mean when running errands, or I just need a quick fix up before going out of the house. It doesn't hurt too that this foundation is vitamin-enriched and although it does not claim that it has SPF, most of San San products do. It is very budget friendly and aside from the smell, it gives out a flawless look and it registers well on photos.

That is it for my review! Thank you so much for reading. For my next post, I will officially launch my BB Cream review series and will give you an overview/introduction of the series so stay tuned guys! Hope you have a great week ahead. Goodluck!

I agree. This feels heavy on my face. and shade no 3 is indeed dark. I'm morena but still it's darker than my skin tone. :(
