Crazy Over BB Creams: Maybelline Clear Smooth BB White SPF 50

Hello Pinay Beauties! I am back with my third installment for the "Crazy Over BB Creams" series and today I wanted to review something that is readily and locally available here in the Philippines and this is the Maybelline Clear Smooth BB White SPF 50.

I got this BB Cream from Kering Keri Store and I wanted to see if US-made BB Creams are at par with Korean BB Creams.

Product Description and Benefits:

Skin perfecting cream instantly provides ultra UV protection and improvements to perfect your skin:
1. Ultra high SPF 50 PA+++ protection, protects skin against harmful UV rays.
2. Brightens skin instantly, more radiance.
3. Evens tone.
4. Smoothes pores.
5. Corrects the appearance of dark spots.
6. Conceals imperfections.
7. Hydrates skin.
8. 12H wear.

Let's start with the packaging. The product is actually small, and contains 18 ml of product. I think the advantage here is that it's really handy for travelling. It is also a squeezable tube and has a nozzle. Again, I hate nozzles but good thing the opening of it is a bit small compared to the other BB Creams that I have tested so far, so it is not messy. One thing that put me off though is that it does not have a foil seal on the opening.

This BB Cream comes in 2 shades, and I got the shade 02 Natural. I picked the darker shade because I am afraid that the lighter on will be too white for me. Here are some swatches:

As you can see, this BB Cream is way darker than my skintone. At first it was okay but when I blended it, it oxidized and looks so dark. I was actually afraid to try it on my skin but I have to review the product. I noticed too that the product is a bit liquid-y, it feels like a tinted moisturizer rather than a BB Cream. It blends up pretty easily because of the consistency, it also feels a little sticky and it smells like your usual foundation/makeup.

Here is what it looks like on my face. Let us see if it can cover my imperfections.

As you can see, it does cover some of the redness and blemishes on my face, but it has more of a light coverage. It also has a very dewy finish, which is uh-oh on my book since I have really really oily skin.

After applying this BB Cream, I filled in my brows and put a bit of color on my lips and head out to a store near our house. After 2 hours, I took another photo and here is the before and after:

On the photo at the right, the BB Cream is completely set and you can see that I have a bit of dewiness on the top of my cheeks which is actually okay because it gives a nice highlight. I didn't use a primer or setting powder even a setting spray so after 2 hours, I was shiny all over. I also tried my best to not my touch my face or anything, but everytime I pat down a tissue on my face to get rid of my sweat I can see the BB Cream transfer on the tissue paper.

Now for the blotting paper test:

This is just one swipe of the blotting paper on my left temple. I am not sure if you can see some of the BB Cream that transferred on the blotting paper. To be honest, I kind of expected this result because when I use Maybelline liquid or cream face products, I really do get oily all over.

What I like about this product:
  • Locally available and affordable for ₱250.
  • Small packaging, very travel friendly.
  • Has SPF 50.
  • Available in 2 shades, Natural shades perfect for Morena skin.
  • Easily absorbed by the skin.
  • Very moisturizing.

What I didn't like about this product:
  • Very dewy finish.
  • Smells like foundation.
  • Liquid-y consistency, like a tinted moisturizer.
  • Feels a bit sticky on the skin.
  • Transfers.
  • Poor oil control.
  • Coverage is light, can be used in concealing super minor imperfections.

Overall, this BB Cream just didn't work for me. Regardless of the shade, I just didn't like how it smelled, the consistency, the finish on my skin as well as the lasting power. This BB Cream might work for people looking for a tinted moisturizer or a base for their makeup, as well as something to mix your matte foundation with. I tried mixing it with my Revlon Colorstay Foundation and it balances out the matte finish of the foundation.

If you wanted to get a hold of this BB Cream, check out the Maybelline counters on malls near you or you may go ahead an order it from Kering Keri Store.

Thank you so much for reading! Please be patient with me as I work on testing and uploading the posts for this series, it's a bit hard to test all of them because I really need to use them a few times to give you my full and honest review of the item. Please continue to support me, and do not forget to show some love by leaving a comment below. I will see you in my next post. Goodluck!

  5. It depends, people use this as a makeup base before foundation, others just use the BB Cream alone. If you have good skin, just use it alone. :)
