Review and Swatches: San San HD Foundation and Concealer

Hello Pinay Beauties! Recently, I hauled a lot of local drugstore products and I have been super productive in taking the photos and swatches. I noticed that for the past few months, I haven't really featured local Philippine products and this is what this blog is all about. So expect my upcoming blogs to be filled with local product reviews. For today, I am going to share with you the newest line of makeup from San San: their High Definition (HD) Foundation and Concealer.

San San came up with their HD line last December and a lot of people have been posting good reviews about this product. I actually reviewed their Liquid Matte Foundation before, which I really liked, so I know I have to try this one out. I went to HBC here in Ever Commonwealth where they have all the shades available (I heard that some stores doesn't carry some of the shades) and also picked up their concealer which is interesting because it is a pen-type concealer. I was contemplating if I will pick up their 2 way cake but decided not to, since I have a lot of powder foundations that I wasn't really able to use because I prefer loose powders.

HD Foundation with Vitamins A, C & E + SPF 30 in Beige
25 ml - ₱195.00

First off, can we just admire that classy and elegant packaging? I think San San did a great job on how they presented this product. The box packaging is very nice and the glass bottle has that high-end feel to it. Another step up that they have on this product is that it has a pump! The pump doesn't feel cheap at all and it works really well, it dispenses just the right amount of product.
I got the shade in Beige, which is the middle shade in this line. Both foundation, concealer and powders come in 3 shades: Natural, which is too light for me (and that was surprising), Beige, which is the middle shade and Olive, the darkest shade and suits morenas really well.

It still has that distinctive coconut-vanilla scent, but it is more subtle than their matte foundation and it wears of after a couple of minutes.

As per the coverage, I think this is medium to full coverage and is very buildable. The consistency is a bit thicker than their matte foundation, it is almost like a mousse when I first tried it. The finish is semi-matte, and it feels lighter on the skin.
[L-R] Bare, 1 layer and 2 layers

One thing that I discovered with this foundation is that it takes a lot of time to set. I usually powder my face after my foundation has set, by set it means that it has been absorbed by the skin and the color adjusted a little. Good thing though is that the oil control of this foundation is superb! You will see why later on.

HD Concealer with Vitamins A, C & E + SPF 15 in Beige
2.5 ml - ₱105.00
Again, the packaging is really nice and this is the first ever pen-type concealer from a local brand so I am really excited for that. It comes with a brush at the end and you need to twist the other end to dispense the product. Take note that at first use, you may need to twist the product a couple of times.
Now I got the shade Beige, which is actually a little bit (and by little I mean a little) bit darker than the foundation. If you are used to lighter concealers for the undereyes you might want to pick the shade Natural, but if you are like me who always to struggle to find a concealer that matches your foundation, well this is it. It does great in covering up your acne, dark spots and other blemishes.
Consistency will be a tad thicker of course, and I find that it sets quickly which will make it hard to blend once it is set. I advise that you use your fingers for blending because it warms the product and makes it easier.

Now here comes the fun part, testing out the foundation! How do you think it performed in my super oily skin? Here's what it looks like freshly applied, no primer, setting powder or setting spray used:
As you can see, it is still too white both with and without flash, that is because it haven't settled in yet. I love the finish by the way, it looks great both on photos and in person. I use about 2 pumps to cover my whole face, and another 2 for the second layer. Now here's what it looks like after 4 hours:
On the after photo I already applied the rest of my makeup, but still no setting powder or setting spray. During this time I am already expecting the product to just slide off or cake up or look so oily, but I was impressed! Sure you can definitely see some of my acne and redness peaking through, but overall I do not look super oily. I was really not expecting the result and I wanted the product to fail me, do not get me wrong on this, but I just didn't really expect for this product to work so well on me. I am definitely happy!

What I like about these products:
- Very affordable and widely available (although some stores doesn't carry all the shades)
- Contains SPF and vitamins for the skin.
- Semi matte finish for the foundation, matte finish for the concealer.
- Consistency, not too liquidy.
- Coverage is A+, especially for the concealer.
- Photographs really, really well.
- Feels very light on the skin.
- Foundation is blendable and buildable.
- Concealer doesn't crease.
- Oil control is amazing.
- Lasts a long time.

What I don't like about these products:
- Shade selection, lucky for me I have my perfect but some people might need to combine 2 shades.
- The smell, may be off-putting to others.
- Emphasizes dry patches on my face (especially the sides of my nose which are really dry).

Overall, I am super impressed and I think these are a hit! In case you are wondering I won't be picking up the powders for these, because the shades are way too off and I don't think that you will need it. Oil control is amazing, the finish really looks good, I am just stunned by how well this works.

Hope you like my review! Have you tried these yet? What are your thoughts? Did it work well for you too? Let me know!

Thank you so much for reading everyone! As per request, my next post is a local mascara review. Oh, and you have a few days left to join my giveaway! Link is on the photo on the upper right sidebar. I will see you in my next post guys, goodluck!

Great review sis! The coverage is amazing noh? Kaya lang it feels heavy on the face. Unfortunately for me, the concealer creases. :(

Aw, sad to hear na nagcrease sayo yung concealer, sakin hindi naman. Baka need na super moisturized? It also didn't feel heavy sa face for me, siguro dahil nasanay ako? Hahaha! Thanks dear!

Can I ask what what is your skin tone? Mine is NC35-40 and I'm thinking whether to get this shade or the olive one. :)

Hello! I am NC 25 to 30, and if you look at the pictures it is still a tad light on me so you may want to opt for Olive. :)
