Tutorial/Review: Long Lasting Red Lips

Hello everyone! I am back with a new tutorial/review on how to create long lasting red lips using the NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Red and NYX Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red, both from Stuff In Style. (For product details and swatches, please read my previous post here.)

So let's get started:

1. Start off with clean lips. You can use a lip balm to moisturize since matte lipsticks are quite drying, but since I also wanted to review this product, I will not be using a lip balm under it. Make sure that your lip balm is completely absorbed.

2. You can use a concealer on the edges of your lips to make sure that the lipstick won't bleed. I will not be using a concealer to test it out but instead went ahead in lining the lips using NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Red.

3. Fill in the rest of your lips with the lip liner.

4. Next, apply the red lipstick of your choice. I am using NYX Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red, then perfect the edges and smooth it out with a lip brush.

5. Now here is the big secret to make it last longer. There are 3 options to do this: use a blotting paper, line a thin tissue paper on the lips and dust a loose powder on or you can pat the loose powder directly into the lips, which is what I did here. This is to take out the excess moisture from the lipstick.

6. Lastly, dab the lipstick again all over the lips to achieve the color payoff that you like.

And here is the finished look:

Now for the review part. I applied this at around 9:45 PM, and we went out to get some coffee and met up with someone. We got home around 3:30 AM, so after 5 1/2 hours of drinking, eating, smacking and smoking, here's what it looks like:

The lipstick is still intact, but the color faded. The color actually looks more pigmented in person, I think the lighting here washed it out a little bit. I am not sure if you can see it but there are some flakes of dry skin on my lips, which can be solved with using a lip balm under it. The lipstick also sat on the lines/creases of the lips, emphasizing it a little bit. I also noticed that the lip liner bled a little, but overall it still looks good.

The NYX Retractable Lip Liner is a must have! It glides on perfectly, stays on the for a long time and is very pigmented. It also has a matte finish, so you can wear it alone with a lip gloss or use it under a lipstick. I am hoping to get more colors.

The NYX Matte Lipstick on the other hand is a bit dry. It is not as creamy as I hoped it would be, but I did not had a hard time applying it on my lips. The scent it also weird, I really can't point my finger at it. The packaging is really nice. The ingredients are listed, which is so rare when it comes to lipstick products.

I personally prefer to put a little gloss when I'm wearing a matte lipstick, just so it will not look so flat and it has dimension. But I still love lipsticks with matte finishes, and I still Love NYX products. You can get yours at Stuff In Style's Multiply page. The lipliner costs 250, and their matte lipsticks cost 270. You can also use Multiply's dicsount code PH-TWENTYOFF to get 20% off the price of your order. Promo code is valid until February 28.

Will you rock these amazing red lips this coming Valentines day? Let me know by taking a photo and sharing it at my Facebook page. Goodluck!
